2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Director of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.
His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all eager to persist witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
David
